On Wednesday, November 6, an auto accident sent three people to area hospitals with serious injuries.  The accident occurred on Hwy 58, just west of Woodlawn Road in Carroll County.  Witnesses say that the driver, who was traveling east toward Hillsville, lost control of a late model Jeep Cherokee.  The vehicle crossed the median and reportedly overturned end over end across the west bound lane, then hitting the guard rail on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle came to rest on its top at the bottom of a large ravine.  Rescue crews from Hillsville Fire Department and Pipers Gap Rescue Squad quickly arrived to find one patient pinned in the vehicle, while 2 others were possibly ejected.  The driver and one passenger were air lifted from the scene to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center by way of AirCare of Winston Salem, NC and Wings I of Johnson City, TN.  This process closed Hwy 58 for approximately 30 minutes to provide a safe landing zone for the two helicopters.  Paramedics from Pipers Gap Rescue Squad transported one patient by ground to Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, VA.  This patient was later transferred to Baptist Medical Center.  The Virginia State Police are investigating the accident.  An update of patient conditions is not available at this time.
